REBATTEX and Gjensidige to Explore the Future of Circular EV Batteries
REBATTEX and Gjensidige have signed a Letter of Intent to explore how circular EV battery flows can support more sustainable and cost-efficient insurance outcomes. The parties intend to evaluate a pilot model using the REBATTEX platform to improve traceability, battery data validation, transaction security and regulatory compliance for used EV batteries. The collaboration also aims to generate new insights into the insurance economics of EV batteries as circular markets for repair, reuse and second-life applications continue to emerge across Europe.
Pilot initiative to evaluate how second-life EV batteries can support repairability, traceability and more sustainable insurance outcomes REBATTEX, Europe's exchange and compliance infrastructure for second-life EV batteries, and Gjensidige, one of the Nordic region's leading insurance companies, have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore collaboration related to the reuse, repair, sourcing and compliant handling of used high-voltage EV batteries. The initiative reflects a growing recognition that the rapid electrification of Europe's vehicle fleet is creating new challenges and
opportunities for insurers, workshops, dismantlers and other stakeholders across the automotive ecosystem. The parties intend to explore a potential pilot model to evaluate how the REBATTEX platform can be used by dismantlers, workshops and other operators within Gjensidige's ecosystem The parties will evaluate whether a pilot could assess how improved traceability, battery data validation, transaction security, structured workflows and regulatory compliance can unlock additional value from batteries removed from vehicles following accidents or other damage events. Subject to applicable legal,
privacy and contractual requirements, the parties also intend to explore opportunities to analyse anonymised and aggregated battery-related data, including battery condition, damage types, repair outcomes and residual values, to improve understanding of the insurance economics associated with EV batteries in an increasingly circular market. "The future cost of insuring electric vehicles will depend not only on battery prices, but on our ability to create trusted markets for battery reuse. This collaboration will help explore how circular battery flows can support both sustainability and better
insurance economics," said Andy Rietschel, CEO of REBATTEX. As EV adoption accelerates across Europe, access to affordable replacement batteries and trusted circular battery markets is expected to play an increasingly important role in vehicle repairability, claims costs and total-loss rates. About REBATTEX REBATTEX is building Europe's missing market infrastructure for circular EV batteries. The platform enables batteries to be safely and compliantly repaired, reused, repurposed and ultimately recycled through trusted transaction, traceability and compliance workflows. About Gjensidige
